May 23rd - May 27th

Hope your weekend was fantastic and you were able to get outside for some of the weekend!

The chicks are at their new homes and the room seems very empty without them.  We really enjoyed watching them hatch and grow.  They grew very fast and were so friendly.

The habitat mobiles turned out great!  The students put so much effort into their research and pictures.  I love reading about the information they find!

There will be a spelling test this Friday.  I know it is the end of the year, but please continue to study each night.

The students who passed their multiplication facts test will have their ice cream party to celebrate on Thursday.  I am so proud of how hard they worked!!

Our end of year field trip is Wednesday.  We will be seeing a movie and hopefully, if the weather cooperates, going to Memorial Park.  There will be pizza for lunch at the park.

May 16th - 20th

After a very cold weekend it is looking like a gorgeous week!

Our chicks are getting so big already!  We have enjoyed holding them and watching them run on the floor that is covered with newspapers.  I've attached a few pictures at the end of this blog.

In math we will continue to work on fractions.  In order to earn the ice cream party all students need to have their multiplication facts mastered by May 20th.  We are so close to having the entire class be able to come to the party.  Keep working on these at home even if they finished the tests.  Next year they need know these in order to succeed in harder multiplication and division problems.

We will have a spelling list coming home this week.

We are still working on researching our habitats for Science and making mobiles.

Our field trip to the Packer Stadium is tomorrow.  Students should wear Packer clothes or St. Edward clothes.  They  need a disposable lunch and can bring up to $10 to spend in the Pro Shop.  Thank you to the chaperone volunteers from our room, Mrs.  Kurey,  Mr. Biese, and Mrs. Evers.

May 2nd - May 6th

I don't know what happened, but I think I forgot yesterday was Monday and I didn't write a blog.  I apologize for being a day late!

We are having a great time with the ABC countdown.  We went for a walk yesterday through the cemetery and around the school.  Today we are dressed in green and going to help clean up around the school and outside.  Each student knows they have to have their homework complete in order to participate in the countdown that day.

We do have a spelling test this week.  We all have the same list because we are studying contractions, which we all need to know well.

Our chicks are due to hatch tomorrow.  We are all very excited and can't wait for that first pip hole to appear.  We will keep you updated on our new additions as they start to arrive.

In Science we are studying about animal habitats and we are making a habitat mobile in class.  They are using the chromes to look up information and drawing a picture of each habitat.  The mobiles are looking great!

We are on our last newspaper in Social Studies.  Last month I had three students lose their newspapers.  We only order enough for the class and their aren't any extras.  These newspapers are a large part of their grade.  They should be kept in a safe folder at school unless they have homework in them.

In Math we are going to begin working on fractions.

I posted a number of pictures from Beach Day.  The students worked on their towels on the floor.  In the pictures they are researching on the chromes for their habitat mobiles.

April 18th - 22nd

What a gorgeous weekend!!!  It is so nice to see the students with color on their cheeks and with shorts today!

Our chick eggs arrived last week!  We have 18 eggs in our incubator.  We put them in the incubator on Wednesday, April 13th.  They are due to hatch on Wednesday, May 2nd or within a few days of there.  We candled the eggs this morning to see how many of the eggs are fertilized.  We have 17 eggs that are fertilized for sure, and one that is difficult to tell at this time.  We are all very excited!!

We are coming along with our cursive writing.  We are having the students write in cursive on certain assignments so they get used to forming their letters and words correctly.  We finished the lower case letters and are half way through the capital letters.  We will hopefully finish within the next couple of weeks so they have the whole month of May to practice.

In Science we worked on a STEM experiment and had to build a house for a giant that would balance on top of the beanstalk.  I included some pictures of their creative designs.

There won't be any spelling lists coming home this week.

The chick eggs should be here any day.  The incubator is ready for their arrival, and so are we!!

Our students will be taking MAPS tests this week and next.  Third grade will have their first test on Thursday.  Please make sure the students get a good night sleep, eat a great breakfast and are to school on time.  We all thank you for this!

March 14th - 18th

This week the students will perform the living stations of the cross on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in church.  The students have been practicing so hard and are doing so well.  Hope to see many of you there.  We are taping it in case you are not able to make the performance.

There will be a spelling list that will be coming home this weekend.  Continue studying these words each  night.

We currently have seven students who have completed the multiplication timed tests and many who are very close.  These students have already earned the ice cream party.  Please continue to work with the students to learn their facts.  They have until May 13th to complete the tests and earn their party.

It is important that the students are doing RAZ each night.  A book once in a while is okay, but try to have them do RAZ as much as possible.  This is such a great tool for us.  It sends a report on the areas that we need to spend a little more time working on.
